Lifestyle Advisor/Mental Health Clinician

Miguel Quintero Miguel Quintero is a Lifestyle Advisor and has completed his Master of Clinical Science (Lifestyle Medicine) in addition to his Mental Health social work qualifications. He works routinely with most minority groups and is fluent in Spanish.

Experienced Mental Health Clinician and Lifestyle Medicine Advisor with a demonstrated history of working in the mental health care and chronic conditions management. Skilled in Crisis Intervention, Clinical Supervision, Interventions, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). Strong healthcare services professional graduated from Southern Cross University and University of South Australia.

In this capacity, Miguel engages with patients within a private clinic to improve their health and well-being through their GP Care management plan and Mental Health Care plan that includes:  

Assessment and Referral
  • Work with patient’s to identify barriers, problem solving, set goals, risk reduction, maintain motivation and to monitoring progress,
  • Assisting patients to make and sustain behaviour changes by undertaking an assessment to identify the presence of lifestyle risk factors that impact on patient's health and mental health well-being,
  • Applying screening behaviour tools such as self-centre, motivational interviewing, cognitive behaviour therapies & Acceptance and Commitment Therapy to quantify an individual's degree of risk and self-management capacity, attitudes, skills, preferences, and need for further services support,
  • Engage with clients to raise awareness of their stage of change and develop self-management strategies (action plan and goal setting) helping them reduce the onset of chronic conditions and/or to improve their mental health and well-being to reach better health outcomes,
  • Empower patient’s by the provision of essential psycho-education customized to patient’s specific needs using focused psychological behavioural and cognitive activation strategies.
Service coordination and provision
  • Assess risk and lifestyle measures to identify the degree of risk and set benchmarks for monitoring physical health and mental health well-being progress,
  • Work as part of multidisciplinary team with the GP, Dietitians, Nurses and Exercise Physiologist to support the preparation of individualized lifestyle care plans,
  • Establish communication processes that effectively deal with challenging behaviours and the resolution of conflict when appropriate.
  •  Medicare referrals are accepted with a current GP Mental Health Plan are bulk billed
